Thanks for the great blog! One thing I have insisted on having back home while one of my loved ones is on the road are copies of the passport, drivers license, and credit cards they plan to use. I always try to get a specific itinerary if possible. It’s nice to know you can get in touch if you need to. If my kids had wills I would copy those, too.

Couple of things I would add that I find helpful:
1. Make sure you have digital copy of your passport (scan it or take photo) . You may need to someone to facilitate replacement if you lose your passport.
2. Leave a copy of your house key and car key (or place it where it can easily be found) to a friend so can get in your house in case of emergency or if they need to move your car. You know how expensive it is to be towed in the city.
3. Research the places you want to visit in your destination and check if you can get admission tickets ahead of time. Saved me a lot of time waiting to go inside Louvre. There are also places where you have to reserve admission 1 month in advance – lesson learned the hard way wanting to visit the catacomb inside Saint Peter Basilica in Vatican city.
4. If you are planning to use Uber in other countries, make sure the card you use to bill your fare has been informed that you are traveling outside the country. I was having a hard time using Uber in Paris and the app doesn’t warn you that it is because of the credit card. Called the bank , advised them of my trip and Uber app started working.
